If you haven’t checked out the beautiful little town of Manitou Springs, then now is the time to go! Located just miles down Highway 24, the town is a vibrant place with many different kinds of attractions for all ages.
Manitou Springs has been around since the early 1890s due to its healthy mineral springs, which were discovered by Dr. Edwin James. General Palmer, one of the founders of Colorado Springs, thought that it would make a great resort area, and for decades many celebrities, tourists, and sick people came to Manitou Springs to explore the healing powers associated with the water.
In the 1980s, Manitou Springs became a National Historic District, and it’s become a thriving place for locals and tourists to check out. There are a variety of shops, artists, restaurants, and things to explore.
The Penny Arcade
One of the fun things in Manitou Springs is the Penny Arcade. Located in the central downtown area of Manitou Springs, dozens of old arcade games are lined up in various buildings, as well as outside—and people can play them with quarters. It’s a nostalgic look back into childhood for adults, as well as a fun and unique experience for kids.

Manitou Cliff Dwellings
The Manitou Cliff Dwellings is a tourist destination that’s over 100 years old. It consists of old cliff dwellings from Taos Pueblo Indians that were rebuilt to be in their current location in Colorado Springs for a hands-on, historical experience. Unlike many ruins, people can climb around and explore these dwellings, which makes for an interactive experience.
